I'm still finding my way around the Check-In system. I was told that there's a way to put a limit on the number of kids that can check-in into a classroom. Is that possible? If so, how do I go about doing that?

We've been on F1 for 4-5 yrs now and I have set up our preschool class heirarchy different every year - based on issues that come up that make it difficult to use (reporting, ease of use at checkin, quering, etc). We are the VERY green church and about to embark on check in. I am curious to find out how other users who have done this implemented a good test base. In the manual, it suggests setting up activity schedules with recurrences. From what I can see this would not be an ideal appraoch but maybe I am not understanding this.

In the massive amount of reading I did early on I recall seeing a paper on securing a check-in station. Does anyone have a pointer to a paper like that?
How are you securing your check-in stations? How would you do it if you did not have reliable access to a domain?

I need help. When we turn on our kiosks or laptops and start our F1 Check in it goes to checking for availalbe updates. It sits on this screen for anywhere from 5 minutes to typically 30 or MORE. Does anyone else have this problem? Are we missing something???
